Ushering in the Holidays, Wachusett Style

Get ready to celebrate the season! Whether it is making a wreath in a DYI workshop, listening to a community chorus singing carols, walking through enchanted, magically decorated trees, or having a picture taken with Santa, the Holiday Season will soon be underway in Holden, Paxton and Rutland. 

Holden

Holidays in Holden is back, bringing festive cheer and unforgettable experiences for the whole family. Join them for two days of holiday magic in the heart of the community.

Friday, December 5, 6-11 pm: Jingle and Mingle

Hop on the trolley and tour Holden while sampling local flavors in their holiday drink competition, featuring a variety of local businesses. 

Saturday, December 6, begins at noon: Main Event 

Visit with Santa, browse the Holiday Market showcasing local artisans, marvel at the Tree Lighting Ceremony,  enjoy the Parade of Lights and other festive activities. Come experience the sights, sounds, and spirit of the season with Holidays in Holden - it promises fun, community, and holiday cheer for everyone!

Paxton

One special night ushers in the Holidays in Paxton, with festivities centered around the Town Common, St. Columba Church parking lot, and Richards Ave.

Friday, December 5, 6:30-8:30 pm: Warm up by the fire pits, make smores, play cornhole, enjoy delicious food, spread holiday cheer, and remember to vote for the best Town Truck Holiday Makeover. 

Organizations such as the Paxton American Legion, Richards Memorial Library, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Lions Club, and Country Bank and Fidelity Bank will set up tables. New this year will be dance performances by Alexis Lena Dance Arena. The Paxton Center School Chorus will sing holiday carols and there will be a reading of The Night Before Christmas. The annual tree lighting takes place at 7:30 pm. Take pictures with Santa under the tree. And please bring a nonperishable food donation for the Paxton Food Bank.

Rutland

Rutland has been busy all year organizing its 25th Annual Festival of Trees, a week-long celebration of the season with activities concentrated in the center of town.

Friday, December 5, 6:30 pm: The Wachusett Chorus kicks off the celebrations with its performance at the Congregational Church followed by a Brownie Sundae Social.

Saturday, December 6, 4-8 pm: The Congregational Church offers hot cocoa and cookie decorating with nativities on display from 2-4 pm. St. Patrick’s Church will have snowball races. The Old Fire Station will have an open house with photos next to the old fire truck. Food trucks will be in front of Town Hall. The Rutland Public Safety Building will have holiday activities. The Rutland Historical Society will host an open house at the Wood House with refreshments. At 6 pm gather in the Congregational Church for the name reading and Christmas carols. The 35th Annual Tree Lighting on the Town Common happens at 6:30 pm.

Sunday December 7, 1-4 pm: Stroll through enchantingly decorated trees, wreaths, gingerbread creations and more at the library. Santa will be available for photos. Hop on the outdoor train, enjoy reindeer games, a strolling magic show, and more.
